Sigrid Freese -
A group of 11 started out together on Belcher Hill trail from the first parking lot. Fairly steep uphill for maybe a half mile, then Mustang Hill started to descend. Three broke off at Sawmill, deciding to do a three mile loop. At about 3 miles the rest of us stopped for an early lunch, but Connie Hauver forged on, fearing her joints would "lock up" if she sat. Here is her account of her adventure hiking on her own. Lucky Connie, both to see the bear, and that it ran the other way! Connie Hauver - Being alone I had an experience I’ve never had before in Jeff Co Open space parks - a Black Bear ran across my path just where the Belcher Hill Trail is bisected by the Sawmill Trail. If there had been more noise it probably would have gone the other way long before I saw it. Pretty exciting! It took a good look at me and ran off down a hillside. |
