Reporting on an absolutely marvelous Lumper hike today on the Canyon Loop Trail (3.3 miles) in the Boulder County Betasso Preserve. Impossibly blue skies, warm, a little windy, but perfect. Lots of little wildflowers and even a tiny stream which must be feeding Boulder Creek which was roaring down the canyon today. In addition to the Loop, we also hiked another (less than a mile) in-and-out trail up to Bummer’s Rock for a spectacular view in all directions. Betasso Preserve is underlain by one of the oldest rock types in Boulder County, Boulder Creek granodiorite. This rock formed from molten material that cooled and hardened very slowly and was then forced upward. It was Ann Weaver’s birthday and she treated us to little individual chocolate cakes. She brought red icing for us to decorate our own. Fun! Couldn’t return home without a coffee stop, where we continued all the great conversations we had on the trail. |
