Spa
To me, Canyon Ranch in Tucson is as close to heaven as any place I've been. There was a time when I went for a week every September for ten years! Have her connect with me if she's interested. It has become way too expensive for me, but the Denver-based Spa Connection is a good place to go for somewhat of a discount.

Miraval outside of Tucson was great - Ruth and I celebrated turning 65 there. Lots of wonderful hikes, messages, classes and great food. Ruth and Colleen love Rancho La Puerto too- I have not been there for 20 years but found it very healing - more spiritual than Miraval but not as fancy.

Colleen and I have been twice to Rancho La Puerta and absolutely loved it. The food is exceptional as it is organic and beautifully prepared. The classes and hikes, if your friend wants classes and hikes are superb and are taught at every level imaginable. And the people whom we have met both times have been delightful and down to earth. It is a tranquil, beautiful setting and one can participate, or not, in any offerings of the ranch. We also went to Miraval this past October and it did not particularly resonate with me. They place great emphasis on the spiritual and so many people go who are looking for solace or direction in their lives or an opening to see where they need to go next. It, too, is beautiful but a little too commercial for me. The Ranch is like being at camp.

Have her check out Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Mexico. Excellent get away and easy to get to, pick up at San Diego airport, heathy organic food from their garden. very relaxing, no pressure .

Although it is a tad expensive, I would recommend La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club. It's right on the ocean, a beautiful and elegantly understated facility with a Spa, tennis courts, a 9-hole par-3 golf course, fantastic dining, and access to a beach that goes for miles. They have apartments (studio, one-bedroom, two bedroom, etc.) and single rooms. I have stayed there 10-12 times over the last couple of decades, both with kids (young and old), to my 93-year-old godmother. Build a bonfire on the beach (they'll do it for you if you want), walk the shore to the marine sanctuary (and beyond), explore La Jolla. Pricey but a wonderful experience. If she rents a unit with a kitchen, it is less expensive, of course, and there is a nifty grocery store within walking distance. Nothing like the ocean to sweep away cares. I think I'm talking myself into it.... Also, next door is La Jolla shores, an oceanside hotel, with privileges at LJBT. Rooms only. Still great. I've stayed there several times too.
Also, and you know this, Ten Thousand Waves in Santa Fe is a fabulous spa resort. I have only visited there, not stayed, but it is extraordinary. Finally, if she wants just a bed and breakfast getaway, try Rancho Nambe, near the Opera, outside Santa Fe. No one really to spoil her there (no spa), but Sarah and Dick Rochester (the owners) are friends , and I have loved getting away to their 200-year -old rancho in the desert. Understated, and lovely.

I enjoyed the Mount Princeton resort this spring. They have new spa facility and wonderful outdoor hot springs. Food was good and I expect it would be lots cheaper than those you mentioned. Also have gone to Red Mountain in St George Utah. There is an emphasis on activities but expect you could do as little as you would like to do. Food was tasty and accommodations more plush than Mt Princeton. Weather could be better at this time of year.
