Wonderful hike today at Jeffco’s Deer Creek Canyon Park. Many took the Meadowlark to Plymouth Creek Trails and back. A few of us tried to do more, but got REALLY confused between Plymouth Creek and Plymouth Mountain Trails, and after a harrowing encounter with two crazy, stunt mountain bikers barreling down the hill, returned as well. There is a medallion in the parking lot saying “you are at the population center of the state of Colorado" (as of the 2000 census). Wonder how much THAT has changed! |
Big thank you to a passing hiker who took the group photo of all of us. It's a GREAT photo. Show everyone as happy as we really were!
Polly Cox couldn’t stop remarking how the rock formation waaay in the distance (on the right) looked like a dinosaur (it did!). We both loved the angles all the hillsides made with one another, despite the excavations.
How close this gorgeous mountain park is to Lockheed-Martin and how incredibly the architect of that complex totally matched the angle and power of the adjacent rock formation!
The Plymouth trails people loved the change of scenery from the first part of the trail. Lots more green…evergreens, of course. And there was a small secluded meadow of fall yellow grass.
Finally the mix of red and white rocks cascading down the hill at the end of the hike was spectacular.
