Can anyone recommend one she/he has had experience with recently, last 2-3 years, or earlier if the doc is still active. Thanks in advance for leads.

My mother has serious foot problems and she has had a good experience with Dr. John McGarry. See https://coloradofootcare.com/.
Diana Poole 9/2021
I, too, have visited John McGarry. Highly recommended!!
Sheila Kowal 9/2021
Our family also uses him (John McGarry)
Sandy Goodman 9/2021
Alan Ng [pronounced “ing”] at Advanced Orthopedics is excellent. They have a Lowry office and one at Sky Ridge. 303-344-9090.
He talks really fast but he’s really smart and skilled. I don’t like the Adv. Ortho practice but he’s great.
Susan Spero 9/2021
I’ve seen Cara Wylie (Foot & Ankle Center at CU health. 720-848-3668) for several years for a number of foot problems. Very good person, patient, instructive, knowledgeable—all the qualities one hopes to find in a health provider.
Bob Albrecht 9/2021
I see a very nice young woman Dr. Ronnie Pollard. Her number is 303-388-0976. She's over on the north side of City Park Golf Course. Ask them for directions. It's a little confusing to get there.

Orthopedic Surgeon - knees and hips
A friend of a friend is looking for recommendations for knee/hip replacement surgeon, either Denver or boulder. If you (or someone you know) have had such surgery in the last 2-3 years, please send names and contact info of your surgeon, and brief description of your experience.

I recommend Dr. Mark Mills at Panorama.
https://www.panoramaortho.com/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMInqni9PzH8gIVLvbjBx3W_wU8EAAYASAAEgKjGfD_BwE
Dr. Mills did a terrific job on my first hip. I was out snow shoeing within 3 months. We then switched to Kaiser and I’m not so happy with the second hip done by a Kaiser surgeon. I ended up with various problems, including one leg 3 cm shorter than the other so I need a lift in one shoe.
My surgery with Mark Mills was a while ago but I have friends who’ve had hips and/or knees done by him recently and they rave about him. He’s also charming and has liberal politic!
The surgery is done at a free-standing orthopedic hospital next to St. Anthony’s in Lakewood (Union and 2nd, just south of the 240 Union restaurant. It accepts only orthopedic patients so a much safer environment than regular hospitals. And the food was good.
Linda Plaut 8/2021
Dr Jared Foran at Panorama Orthopedics did David's hip. We liked him, and very much liked the Ortho Hospital (that Linda P mentioned) adjacent to St Anthony's.
Patty Shelton 8/2021
Please send to me too, as My honey also needs a hip and is just starting the process. Thank you!
PS Jim Fleming did my ACL replacement - years ago and did a great job, but may be retired. I hear great things about Stedman and Orthopaedic Associates
Katherine Dines 8/2021
Brian Larkin, M.D. at Denver Orthopedics,303-321-6600, at Rose is the best. I had a revision of the knee that initially was replaced at Anschutz, by a CU physician. My guess is that a resident rather than the ortho I thought was doing it, practiced on me, resulting in a painful knee that was botched. Brian graduated from Yale with an undergraduate degree in bio-medics engineering, played soccer for them, loves his family - coaches kids sports, explains options and procedures in a comprehending manner, is kind, gentle supportive and brilliant. What more can you ask for? You know I would be happy to talk with anyone who has questions.
Carolyn Samuelson 303-475-3703 8/2021
Bob Connery used Dr Lee at Stedman Clinic in Vail for both knees - 1st one abt a yr ago. 2nd one last May. Good results both times,
More details from him.
Cyndi Kahn 8/2021
Dr. Craig Loucks - did knee replacements for both Ruth and me. Good friend swears by his hip replacement surgery too. Operates from Skyridge. Recommend highly
Madie Gustafson 8/2021
I have a friend who is going to The Steadman Clinic in Vail. She said that there are several surgeons who all have specialties at this clinic. Her doc is Dr Kim and he specializes in knee and hip replacement.
Nancy McCahill 8/2021
Yes, Dr Kim, who was at Porter at the time (2014), did what he could to repair the damage done by the surgeon who severely botched my initial hip replacement. He was a godsend!
Thordis Simonsen 8/2021
I am happy that 2 people have spoken about Dr. Kim. He did both of my hips and I think he is terrific - was so sorry when he went to Vail. Lucky Vail!!

Eyelids
My eyelids have drooped to the point where I really need a lift. Has anyone had this procedure? If so, let me know...would love to get name of doc and info about your experience. thanks, Sigrid 6/2019
David had a growth taken off of his eyelid by a pro - and a very nice man, Dr. Michael Hawes at Fante Eye Center. See the link:

Two years ago, I had an eyelid issue and saw Dr. Christopher Thiagarajah (oculoplastic surgeon) on Emerson who did surgery on my eyelid and I was totally impressed with his skills and kindness. When I did my checkups there were often people there who were pleased with the blepharoplasty that he had done for them. You may want to check out his website - www.denvereyelid.com
Carolyn Samuelson 6/2019
I have been referred to his older partner, Jerry Popham, glad to have good thoughts on younger surgeon as well. Yes, lets try for walk and breakfast and I'll tell you about surgery. I'd suggest you go for it, sooner the better. Wish I had done it 10 years ago! Sigrid 6/2019
-- Knowing both of them, Jerry because of Copic, I would choose Chris. Look at his credentials . I prefer younger docs because they have more current training. Carolyn
-- Enid Slack and Susan King recommend Jerry Popham, and Carolyn Samuelson likes his younger partner. Sigrid
About 6 or 7 years ago, my left eye was drooping to the point where I was having a hard time seeing. I went to a plastic surgeon, Dr. Stacy Folk, to have it (which then became them) lifted. It is a rather easy procedure - done in her office - where she removes the layer of fat (?) that is causing the drooping. I was black and blue for a while and over a year or so, my eyelids tightened. I would recommend her highly.

Macular Degeneration
need an eye doctor good for someone with wet macular degeneration
I go to an Opth. Dr. Paul Jacobs on University and I25. I know a Dr. Ammons is also at that office and many Lumpers see him.
Judy Hutchison 12/2017
I also go to an eye doctor at I-25 and University. I think it is the same as Judy's, but his name is:
Jason Jacobs. 1666 S. University. 303-320-1777.
I don't know if he is an expert in W.M.D. but I think he is in his 40's. He is fond of telling about how he graduated #1 in his undergraduate class at Harvard. And, since I worked for IBM, he told me about his internship at the IBM Research Facility.
Here is his bio from the practice's website.
Dr. Jacobs grew up in New York. He attended Harvard University in Boston, MA, and graduated first in his class of 1993 Phi Beta Kappa with a degree Summa Cum Laude in Physics with a special interest in optics. In 1997 he received his M.D. from the Duke University School of Medicine in North Carolina, where he also received the high honor of Alpha Omega Alpha membership. He performed his internship in transitional medicine at HealthONE-Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center, and his residency in ophthalmology at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
During his education, Dr. Jacobs conducted research on the excimer laser at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center, which is the laboratory credited with developing the excimer and femtosecond laser technology used in laser refractive eye surgery. He holds several patents on excimer laser procedures.
Barbara Berryman 12/2017
I also see Jason Jacobs—check if he does macular degeneration---thanks, Barbara B.
Barbara Caley 12/2017
I highly recommend my ophthalmologist Carl Hanson. He has been my doctor for nearly 20 years and is kind, caring and skillful. He performed problem-free cataract surgery on me several years ago. Both eyes, two weeks apart. He has the latest technology for tracking macular degeneration.

Orthopedic Associates 303-321-6600 at Rose Hospital-he was pleased.
Judy Hutchison 01/2016
I have had two shoulder surgeries, one on each shoulder and I hope to never have another one.
Andrew Parker with Orthopedics Associates is superb. He is such a gentle, caring physician who is so skilled that he amazes the physical therapists with his accuracy. I wish he did hips, because that's what may be next for me.

Shoulder Surgery
Please know that we would not be so adamant about the superiority of this referral if we hadn't been through other providers who did their best but not in the same league. Our shoulder specialist is:
Armodios Hatzidakis (known affectionately as "Dr. Hatz")
Western Orthopaedics
1830 Franklin Street, Suite 450
Denver 80218
303-321-1333
Hatz is supremely competent, patient-focused, kind, attentive, and drop-dead gorgeous -- which will be obvious. I have had multiple repairs and one replacement; husband John has had two replacements. You will not be disappointed. Their entire practice is high quality. Tell Hatz we sent you. Good luck.
Mary and John Meinig 8/2015
Dr. Hatzidakis is also recommended by Madie Gustafson and Judy Hutchison under 'Orthopedic Surgeon' farther down this page.

Acupuncture - lumbar and thoracic spine
I would like the name and contact information of an excellent acupuncturist who has lots of experience and success working on pain in the lumbar and thoracic spine. It would be great if the office was somewhere between Rose Hospital (9th and Colorado) and Hampden (between S. Monaco and S. University).
Sarah Levine 7/2015
Scot Somes has an office on Colorado near Yale. I have gone to him for several years for my back and LOVE him: Center for Integrated Eastern Medicine. 303-810-9255.
Pat Wynne 7/2015
I had gone to Dr. Patty Wong on Hampden just east of Monaco. She's a lovely
person and a very experienced acupuncture doctor, trained in China, but I
think she's better with internal medicine issues than orthopedic issues.
Susan Spero 7/2015
My Zumba teacher [who abuses her body regularly!] referred me to Dr.
Nicholas Wissman at Arapahoe Chiropractic, just off Arapahoe and
Holly.....so a bit farther south, but very well worth it. 303-221-3600.
He's not only an experienced acupuncture dr. who teaches at the school here
in addition to his practice, but he was a licensed massage therapist before
he studied acupuncture. So he will often include a little massage with the
acupuncture treatment, or you can get a "combo" appt.....acupuncture and
massage, which I've found to be very helpful. He really knows Western
medicine as well as Chinese medicine, which just adds to his effectiveness.
Susan Spero 7/2015
I highly recommend Jeanette Rockers. 720-596-4767. You can read about her and five element acupuncture on her website at jeanetterockers.com
I've been a client of hers for some time. She is wonderful and treatments have been very effective for me back pain as well as other things.
She is right near Yale and Colorado. Her office is in her home.
Cathy ([email protected]) 7/2015
That sounds like something that might help my back issues as well. Would the Lumper who used Dr. Hebb please be in touch with me?

I’m in my second round of hearing aids from Costco. For several years, I’ve enjoyed low prices, excellent service, warrantees, etc. They offer several types, as needs differ, including those from companies such as Bernafon, a division of Siemens, I believe. Although I have not shopped elsewhere, friends report prices double those of Costco.

Back Surgery
Some of you know and others might not but Dave had his 4th back surgery this morning. Dr. Paul Elliott a neurosurgeon at Swedish Hospital performed a laminectomy on T 9, T 10, T 11, T 12 and L 1. It appears the surgery went well.
Dave wants me to share it depends on what the cause of pain is - spinal cord, nerve roots, vertebral structure, or muscles, etc. So you might need to begin by asking your docs these questions. Dave saw and would recommend a Dr. Paul Elliott, a neuro-surgeon at Swedish who recently operated on Dave for nerve pain. It appears that it is important to identify the source of the pain. Dr. Vidal comes highly recommended by us for rotator cuff surgery others for knee replacement surgery. One might need an orthopedic surgeon or a neuro surgeon depending on the diagnosis regarding the source of back pain. Hope this is helpful in the discussion.
Judy Hutchinson 6/2014
My pain management doc for 10 years or more has been Yani Zinis. I credit him, and Pilates twice a week, for keeping me out of the OR. I'm not pain free but it is manageable with minimal medication.
Sigrid Freese 6/2014
Yani Zinis has been my back doc as well. My (back/spine) PT is Stefan van Duursen (Colorado Spine Therapy). Stefan worked/trained with Zinis before setting up his own PT practice which is limited to back/spine work.
Bob Albrecht 6/2014
My husband and I have also gone to Dr. Yani Zinis and his wonderful PA, Raili ?? [I forget her last name.] Zinis is a DO who my PT recommended when I asked “Who’s the best orthopod for back pain?” I’m not sure he does surgery. I’ve met some of the other docs in his practice, Orthopedic Associates. I’ve like those I’ve met. [Dr. Leslie Vidal did surgery on my knee. She’s also wonderful. Hal Crane used to be there. He’s moved away but I’ve heard his replacement is also excellent.] Never thought I’d say positive things about an orthopedic practice: have had some very bad experiences w. orthopods. I would similarly NOT recommend Advanced Orthopedics for lots of reasons….some of the docs I’ve met there, their admin staff, etc. The exception at Advanced Orthopedics is Dr. Alan Ng, a fabulous podiatrist who’s helped me and has done very complex surgeries on a friend who got mangled in a car accident.
Susan Spero 6/2014
Just to add my 2 cents worth, anybody in the OA practice is great since Traina left. I would ask them for a recommendation. I just went in for knee pain and Andy Parker (my wonderful shoulder(s) doctor) couldn't see me on such short notice so I saw Dr. Larkin. He's doing a total knee replacement on one of my triathlete friends and so I was checking him out for her. He's young, but good, esp. for our "age group". They are a group of really supportive, skilled doctors. What more could you ask for?? They are also getting a hand doctor in Sept. so I will now get some treatment, maybe surgery for the arthritis pain in my hand.
Carol Emrick 6/2014
I had sciatica down my left leg caused by a 'dynamic" L4 disc that became sever after 6 years of moderate pain. My GP referred me to Dr. Michael Shen at Advanced Orthopedics. He recommended a conservative approach so I started with PT, then advanced to a spinal steroid shot - neither of which worked to alleviate the pain. So he performed a spinal fusion/diffusion on L4-L5 laparoscopically and I was walking the next day without an ounce of pain (though the recovery was a long 6 months). I can't give him enough of a recommendation. He is young; exceptionally well trained; has a great reputation and took me from debilitating pain to no pain. Hope this helps.

They are a group of really supportive, skilled doctors. What more could you ask for?? They are also getting a hand doctor in Sept. so I will now get some treatment, maybe surgery for the arthritis pain in my hand.

There's been a lot of overlap of praise for Susan Sgambati, for her partner David Langcope, and for Graham Sellers.

Internist
Well, not to toot family horns, but my daughter, Miriam Reece, M.D., is a board certified family medicine physician who is additionally certified in sports medicine. She is a physician at Highlands Family Medicine, a practice of 4 docs, 2 PAs. Many of my friends and colleagues, and their adult children, are now her patients. In addition to general internal medicine, she is adept at diagnosing and treating sports injuries and conditions. You can read more about Miriam, her practice, and Highlands Family Medicine, at http://highlandsfamilymed.com/ I know I have some bias, but I'd go there if there weren't a prohibition against family members.

My doctor is Deborah Sato, M.D. of Front Range Internal Medicine. She and I have worked together in maintaining my health since 1994. Her practice is located at 499 E. Hampden Avenue, Ste. 450. Although, it is a few miles from where I live, having the chance to be her patient is well worth the drive (about 20 minutes).
Please call me if you'd like any more information, Linda. More than glad to provide this.

I highly recommend Carol Spies. She works at Swedish Hospital, but only has office hours part time.

Carol Spies is my doctor also and just excellent. There are several other women in her practice I've seen from time to time and all seem to be good listeners & thorough.

Dentist
I switched over to Levin Dental about 2 yrs ago and couldn’t be happier. Brett Levin inherited the practice from his dad. He’s great and so is the other DDS in the practice. I’ve liked the hygienists I’ve met, and their front office staff is very efficient. They’re near Leetsdale and Monaco. 303-333-2221 www.levinfamilydental.com. They’ll let you have a free get acquainted appt, and they use state of the art equipment. If you go, tell ‘em I sent you!

I am about to step into a relationship with an orthopedic physician to establish a baseline and check out some chronic discomfort in my pelvis. My physician, whom I love, has recommended Dr. Leslie B Vidal. I am just wondering whether any of you have worked with her?

Leslie Vidal is terrific! Did my knee scope. Like everyone I’ve met in that practice…..& sadly have met several different docs between myself and my husband. Was just there today! And that says a lot, given that I basically don’t like orthopedists! I have a very good experience with Leslie Vidal.

Western Orthopedics is fabulous. Janine Shea 2014
I second Janine’s recommendation, Armodios Hatzidakis at Western Ortho is a fabulous shoulder doctor – my rotator cuff surgeon in 2009.
Madie Gustafson 2014
I know others who used Hatzidakis and were very pleased. Dave had rotator cuff with Leslie Vidal - a young woman orthopod and we were pleased with her - she practices out of Rose.

I have my sister in town who has a problem with her hip. We are looking for a doctor who can help her reduce the pain and improve her mobility. She is looking for someone who won't rush her into hip replacement surgery, but looks at all the options before taking that road. But if she needs it, she is looking for a surgeon who specializes in hip replacement and has good results. Would appreciate the name of a doctor you or people you know have had a good experience with. Any information would be most appreciated. Thanks.

When it was clear I needed a hip replacement:
Dr. Mark Mills at Panorama (on west side of town; he uses a free-standing hospital at 4th and Union, which was wonderful – private rooms, good food, pleasant competent staff) 303-233-1223 stay on line for person. I’ve had many friends go to Mills for hips and knees, and all are very pleased with their results. He’s also quite pleasant, but, like most surgeons, he can sometimes have you wait a while (though he at least apologizes and explains).

Massage Therapist
I have met a delightful gal, 56, single, therapist with a spiritual practice who is looking for extended housesitting opportunities starting about 1 April. Pets can be included. Will look after things in lieu of rent. She is a good friend of a very reputable friend of mine. Would you like to send this out for people who are making extended travel plans about now?

Nutritionist
As many of you know, I have been struggling with gastro-intestinal issues for some time. After seeking medical help, I am now looking to work with an excellent nutritionist who can help me expand my limited diet as well as a naturopathic practitioner whose emphasis is on women’s health. It would be great if I could find these practitioners in Denver, but I am also open to going to Boulder.

Ed and I used Kim Gollick, who practices at 360 S. Monroe St. #200, 303 780-9296 for abt 6 mos and thought she was terrific. Recommended by Carol Boigon who also found her helpful. But...that was maybe 10 yrs ago, so who knows if she's still practicing.
