We didn't have the blue skies or spectacular views we usually get, but this Front Range park has lots of hiking trails that wander up through meadows of grasses with wonderful colors in the fall, gambel oaks and evergreens and many late blooming flowers. The trails are well marked, but somehow we missed the turn to the one we planned to head for and found ourselves almost back to the parking lot before we realized our mistake. Turned around and headed back up and hiked a little over 5 miles; then headed for coffee. The nearest Starbucks turned out to be inaccessible as it was inside the Ft. Carson gates, but we found a great independent close by on Academy Blvd. (think it is called the Big Bear) with pastries galore...think we about cleaned out the case. |
