11 of us had a vigorous hike to Blue Lake in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Weather was ideal, cool and breezy, a welcome relief . The lake is at 11,500 ft approx., nice flowers on the way up. Trail climbs about 1,000 ft and we were glad for our early start as we descended at 11 and met many hikers coming up through the increasing heat. Sad, but interesting part of the day was watching the helicopters carrying out the search and retrieve mission for a woman who had fallen and died on a snow field above the lake Sunday afternoon. That was a good reminder for each of us to keep our search and rescue "card" up to date. A way we can help support the volunteers who carry out these rescues |
