Barbara B -
Pictures from this hike yesterday. Sigrid's photos of the waterfall are much, much better. If you are on Facebook, check them there. Sigrid (prior to hike) - We've done a short, 3 mile loop here in years past, but not since the big fires in this area in 2012. The flowers were wonderful. There are lots of trails so we can figure out a 4-5 mile loop when we get there, or those who just want a short and lovely hike can do the 2.7 mile loop on the Horsetooth and Soderberg trails. Altitude ranges from 5,760 to 6,000+ . It's supposed to be in the low 90's the early part of next week so we'll start at 6 AM from 3rd and Ogden. |
Horsetooth Mountain Open Space. A wonderful, but HOT, hike.
For this photo, Sigrid wrote on Facebook, "About here all 8 of us somehow missed the turn down the hill back to the trail head and walked about a half mile down hill in the wrong direction before we realized our goof. An extra mile in hot sun to finish but what a bunch of great sports!! Not a single complaint."

Bird is a spotted Towhee with a beautiful song, but my iPhone camera doesn't zoom very well!!! We also saw a lot of the yellow coneflowers, aptly named. |
This photo I found on the web - the Horsetooth Rock |
These 2 photos - I thought this might be the "Horsetooth" rock right up above the Falls, but no. Horsetooth is a whole mountain.
